B&B Tana del Riccio in Salento:|only 3 km from sea jewels|Castro|S.Cesarea Terme

Within short distance from the B&B Guest House Salento La Tana del Riccio, a luxury villa in southern Italy and among the best accommodations in Puglia, there are several accesses to the beautiful coast on the Adriatic or Ionian seas, providing rocks and deep waters, to sandy and shallow beaches.

Only 3 to 6 km far away from the most beautiful and famous villages on the Adriatic coast; Castro, Porto Miggiano, Santa Cesaria with her renowned thermal spa, open nine months of the year. A short distance beyond, another two jewels; Porto Badisco and Otranto, all of them along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Italy, connecting Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca. The home for rental truly enjoys a strategic location, in the heart of Salento that also provides close access to the main road which allows you to be less than a half hour from Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli, and S.M. di Leuca.

We suggest exploring the variety, and sharing with us your favorites and new discoveries. The locals select their destination considering the wind directions in the forecast, taking advantage of the Salento peninsula geography, and the short distances to reach an easterly, southerly, or westerly exposed coastline.

When “Scirocco”, we suggest the sandy beaches around Otranto, most famously Baia dei Turchi and Alimini.
In case of “Tramontana” the “Caicco” or “Arches” facilities or the public (no fee) access from Porto Miggiano (“pedalo’” can be rented for a funny arrival to the sandy beach behind the small cape), the ancient roman port of Castro (10% discount for guest of the Locanda del Riccio, at the Hotel La Roccia Restaurant and for umbrella & chair rentals), the public access points of Punta Correnti or Argentiera or the facility of La Sorgente.

Other accesses are available driving further south along the Adriatic coast, the inlet of Acquaviva (immediately after Castro), Tricase Porto, the Ciolo with its restaurant (L’Incanto) overlooking the bay for a perfect and spectacular lunch watching the green and blue waters and the divers from the high rocky cliffs.
Small motor boats can be rented in Porto Miggiano or in Castro for a full day exploration of the numerous coves and caves of the otherwise inaccessible high cliff rocky coast. When the sea is rough we would suggest either the fjord of Porto Badisco as it provides a natural barrier to the waves or the “Piscine Sulfuree” (natural sulphurous water pool) in the Santa Cesarea Spa.

On the Ionic sea we recommend a day in Porto Selvaggio, north of Gallipoli: the 1 km downhill (…and the return up a hill) hike in a pine tree forest provides access to one of the top 10 beaches in Italy with its indented coasts with alternating rocky/sandy beaches and pristine waters.
South of Gallipoli the Nature Parks of Sant’Andrea and the coastline to Punta Pizzo offers lengthy beaches and easy access to crystal clear waters.
Marina di Pescoluso, close to Santa Maria di Leuca, is nicknamed by the locals as the Italian Maldives.

SPA

The SPA of Santa Cearea Terme has been operating since the early 1900s, and offers a wide range of excellent spa treatments and therapies thanks to the natural spring of sulphurous waters, rich in minerals and salts, with active therapeutic properties.
